Three UK-based international artists proudly present their artworks at the Engine House Mezzanine Gallery, located at the Walthamstow Wetlands, a London Wildlife Trust nature reserve. ‘Sunshine On The Water’ explores the cradle of life and environmental preservation, responding to the interplay between light, water, flora and fauna in the 160-hectare nature reserve.
In this exhibition, the artists Pik Cheng, Kin Wong and Eunjung Kim work in diversified media - including but not limited to painting, watercolour and prints. Each artist migrated from Asia to the United Kingdom, just like the transient waterbirds who migrate from wetlands along the East Asian and Australian Flyway. Their art works are therefore informed by their diasporic experiences and synthesize both Eastern and Western aesthetics.
Cheng adopts a psycho-geographical approach, walking in the scrubland and along the waterfront to explore how emotions are entangled with nature. Wong depicts the vibrancy of urban life alongside the natural world. Kim’s work visualises the quiet rhythm of nature through botanical art, capturing the movement of plants.
